b. First Trip and wasn’t it a Wet One !

April 7 – 9 Hayfield nr Glossop

Saturday 7 April

Picked up  my good buddies Alan ( Mouse ) & his lovely wife Marie about 9.30 and drove to Hayfield camp-site arriving about 12.30. after a bit of neat manoeuvring through the quite tight gateway we pitched up in a lovely valley with good views up into the hills.  ( I know Mouse will want to drag me up one soon ! ! )

We then went off exploring and our first find was the Sportsman Inn about 5 minutes way up above the camp-site on the road. Of course we had to try it out ( strictly for research purposes of course.) Beer was ok & the menu looked ok as well but we didn’t try that.

After spending the afternoon in the van, we then went into Hayfield by walking along the small river which  took about 15 minutes. surprise surprise another Pub ! ! This was called the Pack Horse Inn and we had some  food.  The pub itself was a bit like a Tarts Boudoir but the food and beer were good. after gorging ourselves we Came back to “Cis” & played Canasta.

Sunday 8 April

I told you didn’t I !  Mouse the intrepid mountaineer dragged us  off on a 4 mile walk ( I know wimps aren’t we ) around the back of Kinder Scout in the rain, very drizzly with a few intermittent breaks of dry. Lots of Snow still on the hills as well.

Arrived back into Hayfield and went for a beer in the Royal Hotel around 12.30. (Only to dry off of course ). Good choice of Beer and the menu read ok.

we then returned back to Van where we played Canasta again and had Chilli for Tea. The evening was very wet with heavy downpours. The electricity went off in the night due to a power cut on site. Good job I remembered the torch. Mouse & Marie were alarmed by the number of buzzers & flashing lights going off around them in the lounge area. Thought it was an Alien Invasion!

The Camp-site

Hayfield Camping & Caravanning Club Site, Hayfield, High Peak Derbyshire

A really nice site with very modern clean toilet block. Good hard standings and situated in beautiful surroundings. A pub within 5 minutes and the village is 15 minutes walk away with 4 more pubs, Chip shop, Coffee shop, Conservative club and village store. What more could you ask for? Would definitely come back (note if you’ve got a big rig then you might need to do some shunting like I did
