Dirty Minging Frenchman !

Saturday  3 September

Off we jolly well go again, setting off at some ungodly hour in the morning down to Dover to catch our ferry across the water to Calais.

On arrival we set off South passing the huge migrant encampment just outside the docks. This is known locally as the “Jungle”. At the time of writing there has been a lot of attacks of trucks etc at night by migrants and apparently this coming week there are a load of protests from Truckers, Farmers, Shopkeepers, even the Mayor of Calais who are supposedly going to blockade all the main roads along the coast from Boulogne to Dunkirk to try to get something done about the migrants. What good that will do God only knows !  I just hope that they have finished with it by a week on Wednesday when we will be returning this way !

We have a brief stop for fuel at 90 pence a litre for Diesel and a few bottles of wine  ( only slightly more expensive ! ) to try before reaching our destination for the night, Saint Saire. This is a lovely little aire in a small village we have stopped off at on several occasions and is a short distance from the motorway that we are continuing south on. It is quite busy today but we manage to get pitched up easily and enjoy a couple of hours chilling in the sun. We visit La Quai Gormand which is the restaurant that has now evolved from the old train station that we are parked at the side of. The food as usual is excellent but if any one is thinking of eating at night, note it is only open Friday’s, Saturdays, & Sundays. It is closed completely on Mondays & Tuesday’s but open the rest of the week at lunchtime.

Sunday 4 September

I would like to say we had a nice restful sleep last night but the constant drum roll of the rain pounding on the roof most of the night complemented by the church bells and the menagerie of varied animals put paid to that ! Shotgun any one ?

Unfortunately the rain continued throughout our journey but luckily stopped before our final destination of Fougeres. Fougeres is a very pretty town with a lovely castle. At this time of year we discovered that they have a four day Fete going on where a lot of the streets are closed and they have a huge market throughout them. They still have the usual tat that is found at markets but on a much grander scale.

The aire is pretty full because there are actually two here but one is closed because of the Fete. We arrive at 3.00 and luckily we managed to get the second to last place.

Having parked up we had a good wander around the town and the market ( who says I don’t take Jane shopping ? ! ) stopping twice for refreshment in a couple of nice outside bars before heading back around tea time to the aire for our dinner.

Having prepared dinner ( Jane really ) we take an already part open bottle of wine to the picnic bench just across from “Cis” and have the essential aperitif before dinner.

Whilst we were there, there was a French guy who had the worst wig you could imagine that was dark brown on top covering his really white hair below. I thought he was just going to be L’Objet de Ridicule but he soon became La A*’€{=## e Nombre  Un when he emptied his toilet  cassette down the drain ( which is  ok so far ! ) and then used the fresh water tap to rinse his cassette out. Instead of leaving a good distance between water outlet and cassette he stuck it right under the spout thus completely contaminating the outlet ! Absolutely disgusting ! 5 minutes later another guy came to fill up his fresh water. I told him about the previous guy, who was still there and his wife glared at me through her door as I recounted what a filthy pair they were !  Mega Yuk !! No wonder they sell so much bottled water in France !!

We retired to “Cis” shortly after where Nigella Cathcart prepared a lovely cheese & ham pasta dish which was scrummy. Ta !
