Monday 20 June
This morning we caught the bus into Firenze ( Florence ) after getting on the bus and beating the Dutch & Germans to the seats as several couldn’t be arsed to join our queue ( Ha ! Where’s your beach towels now Fritz !! ). Unfortunately the route was very winding and took almost an hour. By the time we arrived in Firenze, Mrs Green in the Gills was feeling a little queezy. Luckily she didn’t take long to recover and we were soon on our look around the city.
We saw the beautiful Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral and went in the small front bit but the large Dome had a humungous queue which we didn’t want to spend the whole day awaiting our turn ( of course if you were a different nationality you could shove your way to the front ! )
Firenze is very beautiful and there are many sights to view. ( judge for yourself on the photos ) We walked across the Ponte Veccio Bridge, past the Palazzo Pitta, in the Veccio Square, to name but a few. The highlight of our day was a beautiful mixed Seafood grill for me and a Seafood platter for Jane in a very nice restaurant not far from the Cathedral. This was the best food we have eaten out since we began our journey and we have been looking forward to it but up to now have been disappointed in where we have chosen.
After lunch we wandered around some more before catching the bus again for some more queezyness on the way back to the site. On our return we sat out for the last bit of sunshine before it clouded over again when we re-entered the interior of “Cis” ( also to save me as I have 4 Mozzie bites from that brief outdoor encounter ! )
