Thursday 17 September
Today the weather is meant to be sunny and warm and although it started off sunny when I went off on my bike ride it became cloudy until about 11.00 when we were treated to a full day of sunshine ( Wayhay !! )
I did my longest trip on two wheels today by cycling to Argeles Sur Mer which was about a 30 mile round trip by passing through Canet Plage, St Cyprien and keep heading south towards Spain ( not going to try that trip just right now ! )
On my return and after cooking some Sausage & Bacon French Bread butties for breakfast we spent the rest of the day lazing about, reading, doing the blog and generally NOT going on any buses, trains, bikes ( except my earlier sojourn ) or indeed feet, to anywhere other than the campsite. The Sun is lovely and we have a well deserved relax around “Cis” and did absolutely B*****r all, all day. Lovely !
Friday 18 September
Today’s early morning jaunt on my bike took me north to Torreilles Plage which was very small and pretty unexciting but did have a decent beach and so I wouldn’t probably bother returning here at any time. I passed the spot where I saw the Otters the other day but they were nowhere to be seen today. I did however pick up a slow puncture and was glad that I bought another mini-pump from Canet Plage the previous afternoon and was able to limp back to the campsite
Today was another Lazy day with a venture to the pool being the furthest we walked to, where we just sat around sunning and reading with a brief interlude for a swift one at the bar at lunchtime along with a nifty Cheeseburger and Croque Monsiuer ( Cheese on Toastish )
At tea time we returned back to “Cis” and after fixing my puncture, got ready for what was going to be our last night before moving on north on Saturday. We have though decided to stop another day as its going to be sunny here and pretty pants for the rest of the country ( pretty much the same as the UK I believe ! )
We pop along to the north side of the port where there are two small restaurants. We had a drink in one but decide that the other restaurant’s menu is more appealing. This is also reinforced by the fact that the first one is going to be doing French Karaoke which if you recall on our Chinese trip sent us to bed early because it was atrocious ( obviously we are music lovers, preferring not to hear the dulcet tones of a Le Chat being strangled ! )
The second one called L’Estaca had a nice choice of Fish and I tried a nice Dorada whilst Jane plumped for her favourite; Mussels, this time done in a creamy sauce. Both were delicious to the person choosing them ( I don’t particularly like Mussels )
This restaurant had a 4 piece Jazz band comprising of 3 different Saxophones and a drummer and whilst Jazz isn’t my favourite type of music, they played well and served as a nice accompaniment to our Dinner ( much better than Karaoke ! ). I know Coach would have appreciated them
Having had a really nice meal in convivial surroundings with of course excellent company, we strolled back to “Cis” briefly stopping to look at the boats in the harbour before calling it a night
Saturday 19 September
The last early morning bike ride in the deep south took me along past Torreilles and finally to Le Barcares, all without needing to go on the road as there are plenty of cycle routes along this stretch of the coast. This makes it a pleasure to cycle along without worrying about careless motorists. ( Great Britain Take Note ! )
Le Barcares is a little bigger than Torreilles and there appeared to be plenty of bars and restaurants in the market place area as well as a decent beach and lovely harbour. ( Of course not open at 7.30 in the morning ! This isn’t Wetherspoon’s country you know ! ) Not sure if there are any official aires here but there were plenty of motorhomes dotted about in various spots throughout the area.
On my journey home I was once more privileged to spot my Otter family who must have been away at an Otter convention yesterday and were fully engaged today in feeding and sprucing themselves up for their public’s delight.
After breakfast we spent a couple of hours on the beach before we returned to the more comfortable sun loungers around the pool ( the sand is a killer on my back these days, must be getting old ! ). We again spend the day sunning and reading, although we were visited by a film crew making a commercial who monopolised the snack bar during the peak lunchtime period. ( Why they couldn’t have done the filming there before lunch God knows ! ). They didn’t enquire after our services though ( Miserable beggars ! )
Having concluded our day toasting ourselves we returned back to “Cis” where we made a start in packing up for an early departure tomorrow and I produced this latest post for the Blog as I’m not sure when we will have Internet connection again. So Ta Ta for now
